Gratitude

Happy and most blessed Thanksgiving to all! I hope your

pies turn out just like you want them and the white meat isn’t

dry, but more importantly, I hope you find a way to express

your gratitude to God for I believe we all have reasons to be

thankful. What a blessing we receive when we learn to live

with a sense of gratitude to God and others!

This is a special Thanksgiving for my family and me because

our newest grandson was born on Monday. Drew Obie

Crawford was born in Denton at 7:04 and weighs 8lbs. 8oz.

and measures 19 ó”.

Our daughter has had both her babies at a birthing center

where the whole family is invited to be part of the labor and

birth. I’m so thankful to be able to be there to help and

encourage throughout whole process. Everyone had a job to

do and treated each other with love and kindness. It was

hard and stressful, but we all got to share the experience of

seeing Drew take his first breath. We’re talking real life here- painful,

scary, hard work, and totally worth it. I was so

grateful when Drew was finally born, in a strong voice I said,

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow!” When I looked

over at my husband I saw the tears in his eyes. It was such a

special moment I hope one I never forget. Yes, it’s a special

Thanksgiving for us! Praise God from whom all blessings

flow!

In Christ's love,

Cynthia

United Community Centers Needs Our Help!

CTC United Methodist Women,

The Turkey Basket Program at UCC needs our help. Please do what you can to help them meet the need.  We have a link on our home page and you can call and  talk about what is most needed at this time.  UCC 817-927-5556. See the ICC letter below.

I always thank God for you,

Cynthia

Friends of UCC,

This Thursday and Friday we are holding our annual Turkey Basket program at all three of our centers. Currently, we are at 276 baskets. Last year we served over 500 baskets to clients. Monetary donations are also down by 25%.

We are asking that all volunteers, advocates and friends of UCC consider bringing out items for a basket and making a donation. We need your help!

Making a Difference!

I was so excited to read Responsively Yours, Harriett Olson's monthly letter, in the November issue of response magazine. She writes about gratitude and lists many reasons to celebrate.  One thing that especially got my attention was about the Hershey Company announcement that they plan to source 100 percent of cocoa for its products from fair trade sources by 2020.

Remember signing a postcard asking Hershey to change their practices and demand that suppliers pay farmers a fair amount for their cocoa and eliminate child labor?  We signed cards at several of our conference events and I know the Tarleton State UMW had a table in front of the campus library one day and got lots of the classmates to sign cards.

Well, those cards made a difference. When a company contact told Sabrina White(the UMW leader who led this campaign),about the decision to go 100% fair trade, the contact added,  "Now you will no longer have to spend time and money on postcards."

Keep up the good work!  Keep working for justice!  We are making a difference for good.

Greetings from the New Mexico Conference!

Greetings from the New Mexico Conference United Methodist Women!  I was honored to be invited to the New Mexico UMW Annual Meeting in Albuquerque this weekend.  It was a special time for me because I was born and reared in New Mexico and my mother served as a local, district, and conference officer in this conference as well.  It was exciting to be asked to come "home" for a visit.

They even asked me to be the speaker at the banquet on Saturday evening!!  It was an honor, but I'm glad I got that done.  UMW has a way of stretching us, doesn't it!  I felt very supported by friends.  Karen Morgan, our East District President of the Central Texas Conference, and Jerri and Bill Savuto, my dear friends and retired missionaries, were there to cheer me on.

I got to visit with long time friends and meet many new ones as well.  The New Mexico president Jo Anne Buckley has been a wonderful friend and supporter as we have served as conference presidents together for the past four years.  It was special to get to be there to celebrate her last annual meeting as president.

I'm enjoying some time in Santa Fe with my family and will return to Texas on Tuesday evening.  I'm working on the October "Cynthia's Sharing" and the Healthy Families/Healthy Planet Colloquim we are helping with on Nov. 2 & 3.  I'm also praying for the Local Leadership Training that will be going on in the 5 districts in November.  I hope we will have a great turn out and all will be blessed by the day.

Just a reminder!  The registration for the Legislative Event is on the website.  Our national leader Harriett Olson will be there to speak to us.  I'm going to be there for sure.  Hope to see you there too!

Many blessings,

Cynthia

Thanks to Dr. Carl and Becky Bradley and Hailey Austin, and the Waco Korean UMC Choir who shared their music with us.

Thanks to the Young Women Advisory Group who reported to us about their plans for the future.

Thanks to the dancers who shared their joy and gratitude to God.

Thanks to the outgoing officers for their service remembering of course we don't retire from UMW, we just go on to a new path of service.

Thanks to those incoming officers for their courage to take on a new challenge and with all its blessings.

Thanks to Jerri and Bill Savuto who on top of Jerri's inspiring and challenging message, went above and beyond to make it a very special day.

Thanks to our conference team who worked to make everything go smoothly - the program resources, the registrations, the resource books, the program, the auction, and so much more.  We have a winning team!

Thank you for your faithfulless.  Thank you for your thanks and support throughout the past four years.  I have been loved all the way through and I can't tell you how much that means to me.  I know you will give this wonderful support to Linda Hutchings and her team in the years to come.

We told our story and it was powerful and filled with promise!  There is hope for United Methodist Women.  Let us pray expectantly and 'run to get the umbrella" because we can "hear it in our ears". Those showers of blessings are coming!

Glory be to God!
